Greetings all.

I am a recent convert from AutoCAD to MicroStation. I'm running Power GeoPak SS2. I've created a Site Plan by tracing an old Boundary & Topo survey. I used the "Place Point or Stream Curve" command to trace the contours on the old survey plan.

I need to figure out how to:

a) Assign contour elevations (Z) to these "splines"

b) Label these contour elevations, preferrably in a manner similar to something that looks like this: ---------100----------

If anyone can be of any help, I'd really appreciate it. I searched AskInga, but nothing jumped out at me. I'm still getting the hang of the different "lingo" between MicroStation and AutoCAD. Also, the reference manuals I have don't seem to be of any help in this regard.

Thanks!

I have a requirement wherein I need to incorporate viewing of Microstation J (the obsolete DGN) format via .net application. If anyone has any idea on the same then please help. Also if anyone is aware of any viewer apart from Bentley View that can view this file format then also suggest the same. Thanking you in advance.

Dunno if you ever got an answer to this. It can be done. I've provided the answer below. I can't take credit for this though. It is posted at the AskInga site.

To run a macro or set of keyins when starting MicroStation, you can use the -s command line switch which dumps the contents of a "startup file" into the MicroStation key-in window for immediate execution.

For this to work, you'll need to append the MicroStation icon command line to read:
ustation.exe -sdrive\folder\file.txt For example: -sd:\temp\RunNow.txt

I'm sure my answer is way too late at this point. And it's not going to matter much anyway.

If you've closed the file, then there is no way to get your data back. MicroStation XM will automatically compress out deleted elements. So when you re-open the file the trace of those elements are gone for ever.

If you were to use the undo command before exiting the file then it would have likely recovered just fine as long as the undo buffer wasn't exceeded. It's a pretty big buffer.

I made a bad mistake, and I don't know what to do now..

I 'm using a microstation powerdraft XM version..and i was working on some plans...and decided to paste some blocks of furniture on the same file....

I wanted to create a new file with just the furniture blocks so i deleted my plans and re-name the file and save it with the blocks only...thinking the original one wouldn't be affected.. I was wrong....:(

Any way to get that file back the way it was??

thanks for your help..

This may be too late to help you, but I asked a guru about this and received this answer:

"This is a very complex process. The student needs to understand 3D, moving

in 3D space and work from different views. Polygons of any number of sides
are flat 2D shapes, so could create a cylinder of pentagons placed in a
Front view by rotating copies from a Top view. However, to create a globe
with 2D pentagons, he would have to know how to define an ACS for each row
so he could change the angle with every row.

Another way to do it right is working with surfaces. The pentagon would be
curved as he placed them one row at a time with each row reducing the number
of pentagons around the perimeter so it closes on the top. If he did one
quarter of the globe, he could rotate copies to close 1/2 of the globe. Then
he could mirror the top/bottom half.

There is no simple way of writing out some steps as it would take some time.

No. This is done quite intentionally by Bentley so that it becomes too annoying to bear. If you really need the software then you'll buy it.

You'd have to check with Bentley on getting an extended evaluation period.

There is one thing you may be able to qualify for where Bentley will actually provide you with a free copy of MicroStation (unrestricted) for an amount of time.

Secondly, do we have option to increase the trial period of Microstation V8i? Any Suggestions??
