civ tools  mdl from bentley is great it can create your contours z values but once they have a z value you can lable them via drawin a line across the contours and  where it crosses it will break the contour and insert the text value at the righ RL or Z value…

use it all the time but you have to be in 3d file for it to work…

Your help is greatly appreciated.  I thought about the "place text" solution, but that's a little more manual than I had hoped.  I found ModZ.ma, and that was helpful – but it also led me to looking for additional MDL Applications.  I think I have found what I need from CivTools through the Bentley Library.

Again – I really appreciate your reply.

I got an answer from a guru here. Here is what he said:

"I am not a user of Power Geopak SS2, but from a MicroStation foundation

viewpoint, if the contours that have been traced are all at the same Z

level, for instance Z level 0. Then they can be moved one by one to their

respective Z level using AccuDraw. It helps if you are in an Isometric

oriented view. Just select the B Spline with the Move command, rotate the

AccuDraw compass by pressing the keyboard shortcut "F" for front view

rotation, Move the mouse vertically and then type in the Z value. This works

relative to the existing location. Otherwise, you may be able to find a copy

of the MDL application called ModZ.ma somewhere on Bentley's Select support

site. This allows you to select a single element, a selection set or fenced

set of elements and move them to a specific Z location.

Labeling points can be accomplished with the Place Text command and

AccuSnap. Set your Justification to Top Left and locate the text using

"Near" snap. If you want the text to be placed relative to the point on the

element, press "O" to set the point as your Origin point."

I hope this proves helpful for you.

Greetings all.

I am a recent convert from AutoCAD to MicroStation.  I'm running Power GeoPak SS2.  I've created a Site Plan by tracing an old Boundary & Topo survey.  I used the "Place Point or Stream Curve" command to trace the contours on the old survey plan.

I need to figure out how to:

a) Assign contour elevations (Z) to these "splines"

b) Label these contour elevations, preferrably in a manner similar to something that looks like this: ———100———-

If anyone can be of any help, I'd really appreciate it.  I searched AskInga, but nothing jumped out at me.  I'm still getting the hang of the different "lingo" between MicroStation and AutoCAD.  Also, the reference manuals I have don't seem to be of any help in this regard.

Thanks!
