Discuss benefits of using Reference files!

I work in a design office and there are individuals who still have not bought into the use of referencing design files into a drawing to create a master design file.  Some individuals would rather create the drawing (or elements of the same drawing) over and over and when it comes to editing they would have to change multiple drawings opposed to simply updating one drawing file that could have reference into other files.

Any comments on this matter would be appreciated.  I simply can't convince certain people of the efficiencies involved in using reference files.

Thanks,

EMM
