Ok. That is a truly weird. Haven't heard of anything like that before. I did some checking over here and got some possible suggestions/answers from some other gurus. Here they are:

- I am suspecting that this is a network issue. He is working in v7 mode and writing the file to a server. Often, messages about errors writing to a server don't display locally.

- Perhaps from his PC, he doesn't have full privileges. He needs to compare the two PCs to see what is different.

- I would also suggest that he considers looking at Global workspace Manager where IT can quickly see discrepancies between MS Workspace settings.

- Make sure you have toggled on Workspace|Preferences|Operation|Automatically Save Design File Changes

They are a bit random I realize. I hope something here helps you out.

A point of clarification: the "save as" file was successfully created, and contained all work except for the missing 20 minutes. Bizarre.

Hi,

I'm using Microstation V8, working in V7 mode, and have been having a very serious problem and am hoping someone will have an insight (or at least a guess) as to what the fix is.

Intermittently and with no discernible pattern, Microstation sometimes fails to save. I actually lost about 6 hours of work not long ago due to this problem, but was just now able to catch the problem in the act.

I'm saving to a server and V7 autosave is set to the minimum of 30 seconds. At no point have I gotten any sort of error message about failure to write to disc, or anything of that sort.

My workaround has been to open a second, read-only, copy of the current file I'm working on to make certain that my changes are being registered. This is what allowed me to catch the problem in the act. I was working on some interior elevations and had just finished up a room. I manually hit the save icon and went through my opening of a second copy routine. Some of my work was there, but my last 15-20 minutes of work was not. I close the read-only file, hit the save icon on the original file again, re-open a second copy and still don't have the missing 20 minutes of drawing. Repeat this a couple of times with no joy, and finally do a "save as" to a different file. No luck, the 20 minutes of work simply will not save.

Our other station (running v7) has never had this problem, and uses the same server for data storage.

I'd suspect it was a local machine problem, but have never had any difficulties with other programs failing to save.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tim
