I want to connect a beam into a column near (but not at) it's midpoint

I want to connect a beam into a column near (but not at) it's midpoint.  When I place the beam it only wants to snap to the midpoint…then I have to move the beam down to the correct location.  The problem with this is that while the ****ytical line and nodes follow the beam the column maintains its' node at the midpoint…where the beam was originally placed.  I can't seem to modify the node that pertains to the column to get it to match up to the node of the beam.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
