Loading frequently used dialog boxes using function keys in V8
Peter Bekkers of Adviesbureau G&B in Alphen, Netherlands, loves using function keys. Recently he wrote in with the following tip:
“The following key-in easily opens the Level Manager dialog box: mdl keyin lvlmangr levelmanager dialog open. Assign it to a function key and you can work faster.”
Here are some other key-ins to load frequently used dialog boxes:
• Models dialog box: mdl keyin modelmanager model manager
• References dialog box: mdl keyin ref dialog reference
• Raster manager: raster dialog open raster_manager
• Export design file dialog box: dialog export
Peter says, “Let your left hand do something. Every mouse click is one to many!” We agree!

I want to make some custom tool boxes that I can open through a standard pull down menu. Do you of any key-in command for opening a tool box?
Scott,
You shouldn’t need key-ins to load a tool box from a MicroStation Menu. When adding a menu item to a MicroStation menu you are given the option to specify a tool box. A pull-down list is available so that you can choose which ever tool box you want. The pull-down menu will include any customized tool boxes that you have created. Post again if you’re looking for something more specific than that. Also there are articles available on creating menus or tool boxes in case you would like to see them.
We have all of our stadard written into pulldown menus. I have programmed Thank you for your input but it is not quite what I am after. I have been very busy so it has taken me awhile to check back in. I have all of our standards written into pull down menus. I have programmed the pull down menus to load specific cell selectors for certain standards such as lighting fixtures, receptacles and so on, and I have added some key-in commands behind the cell selector buttons to create levels, set line weights etc. Cell selectors take up a lot of room on the monitor so what I was thinking about still doing is through the pull down menus but instead of activating a cell selector I would activate custom tool bars with the same commands written into them instead. The tool bars are smaller and they also have docking capabilities.
I just went and checked it out. I see what you meen now. I will play with it and see if it works out for me. Thank you so much for your time. I cannot believe I have made all these pulldown menuw and never noticed that button!
